Dear Educator,
The Children’s Museum of St. Tammany invites you to join us as we participate in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record®. This is the 16th anniversary of Read for the Record®, and we are excited to help set a new world record for the world’s largest shared reading experience.
On October 28, 2021, children and adults around the world will help set a new record by reading a wonderful children’s book. This year’s campaign book, Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon, written by Kat Zhang. Amy loves craft time at school. But when her teacher asks everyone to make their own dragon, Amy feels stuck. Her first dragon has a long, wingless body, stag-like horns, and eagle claws, but her friends don’t think it’s a real dragon. Then she makes dragons like theirs, but none of them feels quite right...None of them feels like hers. After school, a story from Grandma sparks new inspiration, and Amy rounds up her family to help her. Together, can they make Amy’s perfect dragon?
Jumpstart is a national early education organization working toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. Jumpstart provides language, literacy, and social-emotional programming for preschool children from under-resourced communities and promotes quality early learning for all children. By participating in Jumpstart’s year-long program, children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for school, setting them on a path for lifelong success.
All we ask is that you read along with your students and let us know how many total people (adults and children) participated in the shared reading. Later in the afternoon on October 29th, please email Gillian Rabalais at grabalais@cmstkids.org and share with her how many adults and children participated in the shared reading so we may report our results to Jumpstart's Read for the Record® .
Thank you so much for your support of Read for the Record® and for the Children’s Museum of St. Tammany. If you would like your group featured on our website and/or social media, please send your photos from your day to the email listed above. If you have any questions, please email Gillian Rabalais at grabalais@cmstkids.org or 985.888.1555. We hope you will join us on October 28th!
Happy Reading!
